US President Donald Trump has instructed the Federal Bureau of Prisons to reopen Alcatraz, one of the country's most iconic prisons. In a statement on Truth Social, Trump said, "Rebuild and open Alcatraz."
In his statement, Trump emphasized that America had taken more decisive steps regarding national security in the past, calling for a return to this policy by saying, "In the days when we were a more serious nation, we didn't hesitate to lock up the most dangerous criminals and keep them away from those they could harm. That is how it should be."
Stating that they would not show tolerance toward criminals, Trump said, "I am therefore calling on the Bureau of Prisons, together with the Department of Justice, the FBI, and Homeland Security, to reopen a greatly expanded and rebuilt Alcatraz to house America’s most vicious and violent criminals. We will no longer be held hostage by criminals, thugs, and judges who are afraid to do their jobs and who will not allow us to deport the criminals who have come into our country illegally. The reopening of Alcatraz will serve as a symbol of law, order, and justice."
Alcatraz Island, which once served as a museum, is located off the coast of San Francisco in the state of California.
