Trump's fight against immigration: Medical professor deported from the US
Dr. Rasha Alawieh, who works at Brown University, was deported from the US in violation of a court order, despite having a valid visa.
Lebanese citizen and Brown University medical school professor Dr. Rasha Alawieh was detained at Boston Logan International Airport upon returning to the US following a visit to her home country. Despite holding a valid visa, Alawieh was held by Customs and Border Protection for 36 hours and subsequently sent back to Lebanon.
The US District Court for the District of Massachusetts had ruled that a 48-hour notice must be provided to the court before Alawieh could be deported. However, it emerged that this order was violated. District Judge Leo Sorokin requested information regarding whether Customs and Border Protection had "intentionally" complied with court orders.
Judge Sorokin stated that the agency had deported Alawieh without providing any justification, emphasizing that there are serious allegations regarding the violation of the court order.
