Trump's second statement on Iran: Something will happen very soon

US President Trump evaluated the latest developments regarding Iran during a press conference held in the Oval Office.

Emphasizing that they cannot allow Iran to possess nuclear weapons, Trump remarked, "What will happen with Iran? We have interesting days ahead. We will see what happens, but we have entered the final phase."

Regarding the process between the US and Iran, Trump spoke as follows:

"There is a situation with Iran, something will happen very soon. You will be talking about this soon. I hope we can make a peace deal. I'm just saying I would prefer a peace deal over the other, but the other will also solve the problem."

'I WROTE A LETTER' HE HAD SAID

Giving an interview to Fox Business Network, Trump had announced that he sent a letter to Iranian leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Trump had said, "I wrote them a letter saying, 'I hope you negotiate because if we have to go in militarily, it will be a terrible thing.'" Iranian leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had banned negotiations with the Trump administration, which he described as "untrustworthy" and which threatens Iran.

High-level Iranian officials, primarily President Masoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, also frequently state that they will not negotiate with the US under pressure and threats.

Most recently, in an interview he gave in Jeddah, where he was for the Organization of Islamic Cooperation meeting today, Araghchi stated, "As long as the US policy of maximum pressure and threats continues, we will not enter into direct negotiations with the US."

NEW TARIFF THREAT TO CANADA

Making statements at the White House, Trump said that Canada has been "ripping them off" for years with customs duties applied to lumber and dairy products.

Trump stated that Canada applies a 250 percent customs duty and complained that no one talks about this.

Stating that this means taking advantage of American farmers, Trump said, "That won't happen anymore. Unless they lower it, they will face the same tariff, and that means reciprocity. We can do this today, or we can wait until Monday or Tuesday, but that is what we will do. We will apply the same tariff. This is not fair, and it has never been fair."

Stating that the US is being "ripped off" by almost every country and that this must come to an end, Trump emphasized that he stopped this during his first term and will stop it now as well.

Pointing out that India also applies high tariffs to the US, Trump said, "You can't even sell anything to India." Trump stated that India has agreed to lower its customs duties.

Explaining that they are experiencing a similar situation with China and many other countries, Trump said, "The European Union (EU) has also abused this country in a terrible way. The EU was created to take advantage of the US, and they did, but they are not taking advantage while I am in office."

Furthermore, Trump expressed that there will always be changes and adjustments regarding tariffs.
