US President Donald Trump has announced that they are preparing for a new tariff implementation regarding the semiconductor and chip sector.
Trump said he would announce the rate of the tariff to be imposed on imported semiconductors next week.
US President Trump stated, "The tariffs will go into effect in the not-too-distant future. We want to produce our chips, our semiconductors, and other things in our country."
While this move is considered part of the US goal to increase domestic production in strategic technologies, Trump also expressed that flexibility could be granted to certain companies.
