US President Trump hosted Azerbaijani President Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Pashinyan at a peace summit held at the White House. Following their bilateral meetings, Trump, Aliyev, and Pashinyan appeared before the cameras at a joint press conference.
TRUMP: THEY WILL END THE WAR FOREVER
At the historic summit, US President Trump thanked Rubio and Witkoff for their work.
Highlights from Trump's remarks are as follows:
"They have been in conflict for 35 years; the Russians and everyone else worked very hard, but they just couldn't succeed. All attempts failed. But we are finally achieving peace. Azerbaijan and Armenia will now initiate commercial and diplomatic relations. I think we will have a truly wonderful relationship. If there is a problem, call me, and I will solve it. I want to announce the Trump Road initiative.
Azerbaijan will be able to have full access to Nakhchivan. The two nations will be able to work together. This agreement was built in partnership with the US. It is very positive for the future of the entire region. The US is signing bilateral agreements with both countries.
TRIPARTITE AGREEMENT SIGNED
We are lifting the restrictions on defense cooperation between Azerbaijan and the US. As President, bringing peace and stability to the whole world is one of my greatest values."
US President Trump announced at the summit held at the White House that a tripartite agreement had been signed with Azerbaijani President Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Pashinyan.
ALIYEV'S 'WE ARE WRITING HISTORY' REMARK
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev made important statements at the White House. Aliyev said, "We are writing history here."
Key points from Aliyev's remarks are as follows:
This is a historic development for Azerbaijan. It offers us a great opportunity and brings a great responsibility. We will have extremely active cooperation. There are huge opportunities for Azerbaijan. We look to the future with great optimism.
I thank the President very much. Today, he lifted the restrictions that have been applied to Azerbaijan since 1992. After 33 years, these restrictions have been lifted. Today is a day we will never forget. The people of Azerbaijan will never forget this day.
Trump has been working for months to find a solution to the conflicts. We have suffered many losses on this path, but thanks to Mr. Trump, his team, and our friend Witkoff, we have achieved this success. If it weren't for them, we would have remained stuck in negotiations that would have continued forever.
We are talking about a road that will bring the world together. As Azerbaijan and Armenia, we are countries that declared our independence at the same time, but even at that time, we were in a state of war. We were only occupied with war, occupation, and bloodshed.
Today is a historic day because we are building peace. Armenia and Azerbaijan will bravely reconcile. We are now opening a new page in history.
PASHINYAN: IT IS AN IMPORTANT SUCCESS FOR THE WORLD
Emphasizing that the project in question will reveal strategic opportunities that will provide long-term benefits, the Armenian Prime Minister noted that the project will encourage infrastructure development, strengthen regional connections, and consolidate the US's leadership in conflict resolution.
Pashinyan stated, "This great agreement we have reached today is an important success for our region and the world, because a more peaceful region means a safer world. Furthermore, Trump's great success today is another proof of your global peacemaker role on the world stage."
Pashinyan concluded his speech by saying, "Bringing peace requires vision, political courage, and determination. Blessed are the peacemakers; I offer my thanks to all the peoples of our countries and our region. I also congratulate the world, because as I said, this will definitely make the world a better place," after which he shook hands with Aliyev and Trump.
