Tunisian President Saied pardons 1,467 prisoners
Tunisian President Kais Saied has pardoned 1,467 prisoners to mark the 68th anniversary of the proclamation of the republic in Tunisia.
In a post shared on the Tunisian Presidency's social media account, it was stated that President Saied exercised his special presidential pardon authority for 1,467 prisoners on the 68th anniversary of the proclamation of the republic.
The statement noted that 483 of the prisoners who benefited from the pardon have been released, while the sentences of the other prisoners have been reduced.
Following Tunisia's independence from France on March 20, 1956, the republic was proclaimed in the country on July 25, 1957.
