Tunnel under River Thames in London flooded

At least 29 Eurostar trains traveling to Paris, Brussels, and Amsterdam were cancelled as a result of flooding in the tunnel running under the River Thames, which flows through the center of the British capital, London.

STATEMENT FROM ENGINEERS

The cancellation of train services ahead of Christmas and New Year's left a large number of passengers stranded at stations.

The cancellation of train services caused extreme congestion at London's St. Pancras and Paris's Gare du Nord stations. Engineers working in the tunnel stated that the water level has decreased due to the work being carried out. No clarity was provided regarding when train services would return to normal.

RAINFALL CAUSING FLOODING

It is estimated that the severe storms and heavy rainfall affecting England were instrumental in the unprecedented flooding in the tunnel.

Meanwhile, Eurostar, which operates services from London to Paris, Brussels, and Amsterdam, announced in a statement that passengers could receive a full refund or exchange their tickets.
