Turkey also participated: Decisions on ISIS and Syria from the Five-Party Security Summit

The Five-Party Security Summit held in Amman, the capital of Jordan, has concluded. Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan represented Turkey at the meeting. The meeting, which was also attended by high-level representatives from Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon, and Syria, addressed issues of Syria's security and regional stability. In the joint statement released after the summit, all threats to Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity were condemned.

The statement emphasized that Syria's security is critical for regional stability and conveyed a message of support for the measures taken by the Damascus administration. Furthermore, it was decided to establish a joint 'operations room' as part of the fight against ISIS.

ISRAEL'S OCCUPATION OF SYRIA CONDEMNED

The statement strongly condemned Israel's attacks on Syrian territory and its attempts to interfere in its internal affairs. It was stated that these actions violate international law and increase tension in the region. The participants called on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to put an end to Israel's violations and to act in accordance with international law. It was also emphasized that Israel must comply with the Agreement on Disengagement between Israeli and Syrian Forces signed in 1974.

Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi emphasized the importance of Syria's security for neighboring countries at the press conference held, stating the following:

'Syria's stability is important for all of us. We have agreed to act together in the fight against ISIS.'

Safadi announced that a second meeting would be held in Turkey in April. He also expressed that Israel is trying to create an environment of chaos in the region and is paving the way for the spread of terrorism. Safadi stated, ''Any terrorist threat against Turkey is also a danger to us.''

Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein drew attention to the threats posed by ISIS to Syria and the region during the meeting. Hussein said, ''Iraq has suffered greatly from ISIS. Fighting this organization is necessary not only for Syria but for the entire region.'' Emphasizing that the stability of Iraq and Syria is a whole, Hussein pointed to the importance of regional cooperation.

FİDAN'S MESSAGES

Stating that they discussed issues regarding Syria's stability, including the fight against terrorism, and regional terrorist activities, Fidan pointed out that the countries participating in the summit reflected their common stance against Israel's expansionist policies in the region through the final declaration.

Stating that it is important for Alawites, Christians, Druze, and Nusayris in Syria to stay away from provocations, Fidan noted the following:

''We see that the policy that the Syrian government has been pursuing for weeks without falling for any provocations is being attempted to be derailed by a provocation in recent days. We certainly have the determination to assist the newly formed government in Syria in every aspect and to support all its stabilizing activities.''

Stating that they evaluated concrete steps that could be taken against ISIS in today's talks, Fidan added the following:

''As regional countries, we have decided to establish a joint operation and intelligence mechanism, especially against DAESH. Our colleagues will work on this matter to concretize the details.''

Stating that the 5 countries will combine their capabilities to completely eliminate DAESH before it re-emerges in the region, Fidan reported the following:

''The eradication of the PKK, which is a common enemy for Iraq, Syria, and Turkey, from the region and the cessation of its armed terrorist activities are among our priorities.''
