Turkey is the most popular holiday destination for Germans

The German Travel Association (DRV) forecasts an 11 percent increase in turnover for the tourism year ending in October.

Last year, travelers from Germany spent a total of 115 billion Euros on multi-day holidays and private trips, including local expenditures. This figure is 3.7 percent higher than the previous year.

In 2019, before the coronavirus, this figure was below 100 billion Euros.

'TURKEY IS THE MOST POPULAR ROUTE'

According to a report by Arti49, the DRV stated that Turkey was the most popular destination among holidays booked through tour operators during this year's Easter break.

Turkey is followed by Egypt, the Canary Islands, the Balearic Islands, and Greece.

The German Travel Association (DRV) says, "Consumer-friendly and well-secured package holidays to destinations in the Mediterranean with guaranteed sunshine and cruises are particularly popular."

On the other hand, it is noted that while approximately half of German tourists book their holidays through tour operators, the other half make their reservations individually.
