Turkish national detained in the US on 'terrorism' suspicion: 'Illegal alien' statement
A statement from Washington announced that a Turkish citizen has been detained on suspicion of being a 'terrorist'.
Karoline Leavitt, who was appointed as White House Press Secretary following Donald Trump’s inauguration, provided information regarding a Turkish citizen detained on suspicion of 'terrorism' during her first press briefing.
Although Leavitt stated that the individual was detained due to terrorism, she addressed the matter within the context of illegal immigration.
The spokesperson noted the following regarding individuals attempting to enter the US illegally:
''To any foreign national thinking about entering America illegally, think again. Under this president, you will be detained and you will be deported.''
According to a report by Begüm Dönmez Ersöz from VOA Turkish, Leavitt stated that a Turkish citizen was detained by the New York field office of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on January 23. Leavitt did not share any information regarding the identity of the detained individual.
Reports published on January 23, 2025, in Fox News and the New York Post, which cited 'officials', mentioned that the individual was a Turkish citizen named Gökhan Adrıgüzel.
