Two boats carrying 95 migrants capsize off the coast of Libya

As part of the ongoing irregular migration activity in the Mediterranean, two more boats have sunk off the coast of Libya. According to a statement made today by the Libyan Red Crescent, two boats carrying a total of 95 irregular migrants capsized on Thursday, October 13, off the coast of the city of Al-Khums, located approximately 118 kilometers from the capital, Tripoli.

It was stated that one of the boats was carrying 26 Bangladeshi migrants, 4 of whom lost their lives. It was reported that the other boat was carrying 69 migrants, including 8 children; 2 of the migrants were Egyptian and 67 were Sudanese nationals.

The statement noted that the bodies were recovered from the sea through the cooperation of emergency teams, the Coast Guard, and port authorities. It was reported that the bodies were handed over to the competent authorities for the completion of necessary legal procedures in accordance with the instructions of the public prosecutor's office.
