UK Foreign Secretary Cameron warns Israel on 'retaliation': 'We urge them to be smart'

While the effects of Iran's attack on Israel continue to unfold, Western countries continue to issue statements of reaction toward Iran and support for Israel.

UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron said in a statement today that they are considering imposing further sanctions on Iran.

"AS SMART AS THEY ARE TOUGH..."

Cameron said, "We have already sanctioned 400 individuals and entities in Iran. We have put in place a whole new sanctions regime at the end of last year, and we have seen that this is very effective." Noting that they have also sanctioned the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Cameron stated, "We will look at what further steps we can take," emphasizing that they will also review whether to proscribe the Revolutionary Guard.

Stating that Tehran's attack was a failure, Cameron urged Israel not to retaliate. Emphasizing that Israel should think with its head as well as its emotions, Cameron said, "I think they are perfectly entitled to think that they should respond because they have been attacked, but we are urging them as a friend to think with their head as well as their heart, and to be smart as well as tough."
