The UK has added a new option for citizens of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) to the list of countries presented under the question "What is your nationality as shown on your passport or travel document?" on its official visa inquiry platform.
In the list of countries on the page providing guidance for visa applications on the UK's official public web portal, an option titled "northern part of Cyprus" has been introduced for TRNC citizens, alongside the "Cyprus" option referring to the Republic of Cyprus.
THE REGULATION RESONATED IN THE GREEK CYPRIOT PRESS
The regulation in question became the subject of news reports in the Greek Cypriot press, featuring expressions such as "Is the UK recognizing the de facto reality in Cyprus after 51 years?", "Will Northern Cyprus be given Taiwan status?", and "Strange step from the British government: Northern Cyprus added as a nationality on the official site." The reports also included details that, according to diplomatic sources, the Republic of Cyprus has requested an explanation from London.
