UK moves toward 'travel ban'
UK Minister of State for Development and Africa Andrew Mitchell has announced that the British government may impose a "travel ban" on Jewish settlers who commit acts of violence in the West Bank.
Minister Mitchell responded to questions from members of parliament regarding foreign policy in the UK Parliament.
Mitchell answered a question from David Lammy, the Shadow Foreign Secretary of the main opposition Labour Party, regarding "whether illegal Jewish settlers who commit violence in the West Bank would be subject to a travel ban."
Stating that the targeting and killing of civilians in the West Bank is "completely abhorrent" and that the UK is pushing for those responsible to be prosecuted and punished, Mitchell said the following:
"As for his (Lammy's) comment on travel bans, I can tell him that planning is underway. The Foreign Secretary (David Cameron) discussed this issue with his US counterpart (Antony Blinken) last week, and I hope it will be possible to say something about this in the near future."
US Secretary of State Blinken had also stated that a new visa restriction policy targeting individuals who undermine peace, security, and stability in the West Bank would be implemented, adding that immediate family members of those sanctioned could also be subject to the restrictions.
