Ukraine signs loan agreement with UK for weapons production
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that they have signed a loan agreement with the UK, and that the funds will be directed toward weapons production in Ukraine.
In a post on the social media platform X, Zelenskyy stated that during his meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in London, they discussed the challenges facing Ukraine and Europe, joint coordination, steps to strengthen Ukraine's position against Russia, and ending the war with a just peace and security guarantees.
Stating that Starmer delivered a message of principled support, Zelenskyy reported that a loan agreement had also been signed between Ukraine and the UK.
Zelenskyy noted that the funds under this agreement would be directed toward weapons production in Ukraine, and made the following assessment:
"This loan will increase Ukraine's defense capabilities and will be repaid using proceeds from frozen Russian assets. This is true justice. Whoever started the war must pay the price. I thank the people and government of the UK for their tremendous support since the beginning of the war. We are happy to have such a strategic partner and to share the same vision regarding the prospect of a secure future."
The video in Zelenskyy's post also included the moment the finance ministers of the two countries signed the agreement via a video call.
