Ukraine strikes Russia, earthquake-sized explosion occurs: Entire region evacuated
Russia announced that Ukraine attacked the Tver region with 54 UAVs overnight. The attack resulted in a large-scale forest fire in the area. One of the UAVs struck a Russian ammunition depot, causing an 'earthquake-sized explosion' in the region.
In a statement issued by the Russian Ministry of Defense, it was reported that the Tver Oblast was struck by Ukrainian UAVs. While local residents were evacuated due to the resulting forest fires, the explosion of a targeted ammunition depot created an 'earthquake effect' in the region.
In the statement regarding the attack, the ministry said, 'An attempt by the Kiev regime to carry out a terrorist attack on objects within the territory of the Russian Federation using aircraft-type UAVs was thwarted last night.'
It was noted that Russian air defense systems neutralized a total of 54 UAVs, with 27 downed in the Kursk region, 16 in the Bryansk region, 7 in the Smolensk region, 3 in the Belgorod region, and 1 in the Oryol region.
FIREFIGHTING EFFORTS UNDERWAY
Meanwhile, according to a statement from the Tver regional administration, efforts to extinguish the fire caused by falling UAV debris in the city of Toropets are ongoing.
Tver Region Governor Igor Rudenya stated that UAV attacks on Russian territory were intercepted by the Russian Armed Forces' defense systems and that fires broke out where the UAVs fell. Stating that residents living in the area where the fire occurred have been evacuated, Rudenya reported that firefighting operations are continuing.
Rudenya gave instructions for the evacuated civilians to be placed in temporary shelters and for aid to be organized.
On social media, footage reflected a large fire that broke out as a result of an explosion that occurred in the city of Toropets at midnight.
