UN: 67% of infrastructure in Gaza destroyed in 8 months
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) has announced that approximately 67 percent of water and sanitation facilities and infrastructure in Gaza—where Israel has forcibly imposed hunger and thirst while blocking the entry of aid—have been destroyed or damaged over the course of 8 months.
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East has issued a statement regarding the dire situation in Gaza.
In a statement on UNRWA's X social media account, it was noted that "under Israel's nearly 9-month-long attacks, approximately 67 percent of water and sanitation facilities and infrastructure in the Gaza Strip have been destroyed or damaged."
The statement emphasized that infectious diseases continue to spread and temperatures are rising, noting that the lack of hygiene and water threatens the health of people in Gaza.
In the attacks launched by Israel on the Gaza Strip since October 7, at least 37,396 Palestinians, including 15,694 children and 10,279 women, have been killed, and 85,523 people have been injured.
While it is reported that thousands of bodies remain under the rubble, civilian infrastructure is also being destroyed by targeting hospitals and educational institutions where the public has taken shelter.
