UN and NGOs report Israel has struck 212 schools since October 7

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the Education Cluster, and Save the Children have prepared a report based on satellite imagery obtained regarding Gaza.

The report states that Israel's targeting of school facilities has further worsened the already dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, noting that 57 percent of the schools belonging to the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) have also been struck by Israel.

The report emphasizes that Israel has struck 212 schools in Gaza since October 7, 2023, and reports that 53 of these have been completely destroyed.

The report points out that approximately 320 schools are being used by displaced persons, and 188 of these have been targeted by Israel.

The report states that at least 67 percent of schools in Gaza will require either complete or very significant reconstruction once the conflict ends, and draws attention to the fact that there has been no education in Gaza for approximately 6 months.

TANKS SPOTTED IN SCHOOL FACILITIES

The report, which indicates that satellite imagery and other sources show the Israeli army using schools for military purposes, includes the statement: "There are reports, photographs, and videos indicating that the Israeli army is using schools in its military operations. It is observed that the Israeli army is using schools as interrogation centers and military bases."

The report also notes that Israeli military tanks were spotted within school facilities.
