UN calls for 'restraint' from India and Pakistan!
The United Nations (UN) has stated that it is monitoring the rising tension between India and Pakistan 'closely and with deep concern' following a terrorist attack in the Pahalgam region of Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, calling for maximum restraint from both countries.
UN Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric answered questions from members of the press at his daily press briefing.
In response to a question regarding 'whether UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has direct communication with the parties,' Dujarric replied, "The Secretary-General has not had direct communication, but he is following the situation closely and with deep concern."
Emphasizing that they condemn the terrorist attack that caused the loss of many civilian lives, Dujarric stated, "We call on both Pakistan and India to exercise maximum restraint."
Pointing out that the parties should avoid steps that would further worsen the situation, Dujarric emphasized that all issues should be resolved through bilateral engagement and peaceful means.
PAHALGAM TERRORIST ATTACK
In the Pahalgam region of Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, 26 people lost their lives and many others were injured when armed individuals opened fire on tourists on April 22.
Following the terrorist attack, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi cut short his official visit to Saudi Arabia and returned to New Delhi.
Immediately upon arriving in the capital, Modi held a security meeting with the participation of high-level officials to assess the situation.
Indian officials claimed that those who carried out the attack 'came from Pakistan.'
India suspended the 'Indus Waters Treaty' and demanded that Pakistani undersecretaries stationed in New Delhi leave the country within a week. On the other hand, it was announced that visa services for Pakistani citizens were suspended and all previously issued visas were canceled.
