UN condemns Israel
United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has strongly condemned Israel's unauthorized entry into the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) compound in occupied East Jerusalem, calling on Israel to protect the inviolability of UN facilities.
The UN Secretary-General's spokesperson issued a written statement regarding the raid inmade a statement.
Inthestatement, Guterres said, "I strongly condemn the unauthorized entryby Israeli authorities today into the UN Sheikh Jarrah compoundheld by UNRWA in occupied East Jerusalem.This compoundremains a UN building, is inviolable, and must be protected at allexempt from any intervention,' he stated.
Guterres reminded that under international agreements, any executive, administrative, judicial,or legislative action against UN property and assets is prohibited,and drew attention to Israel's obligations under international law, including the privilegesand immunities ofUN facilities.
Calling on Israel to take the necessary steps in this regard, Guterres stated, "I call on Israel to immediately take all necessary steps to restore, protect and maintain the inviolability of UNRWA premises and to refrain from any further action regarding UNRWA premises."condemnation Icall for." he stated.
