UN Secretary-General Guterres calls for 'investigation into Israel'
United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has reportedly demanded an independent and credible investigation into the Israeli army's attack yesterday on Palestinians waiting for aid in Gaza City, and insisted that those responsible be held accountable.
UN Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric answered questions from journalists during his daily press briefing.
Stating that a team consisting of personnel from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the World Health Organization (WHO), and the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) visited Al-Shifa Hospital, Dujarric noted that medical supplies, vaccines, and fuel were delivered to the hospital as part of this mission.
Dujarric said the team also met with patients who were wounded in the attack that took place yesterday while they were waiting for aid.
"THOSE RESPONSIBLE MUST BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE"
Dujarric stated that the hospital had admitted 700 wounded people following yesterday's incident, 200 of whom remain hospitalized, and noted that the team saw more than 70 bodies brought to the hospital upon their arrival.
Dujarric also reported that the team observed a large number of patients being treated for gunshot wounds.
Noting that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres wants an independent and credible investigation into the Israeli army's attack on Palestinians waiting for aid in Gaza City yesterday, Dujarric conveyed that Guterres also demanded that those responsible be held accountable.
"ISRAELI ARMY KILLED PALESTINIANS WAITING FOR AID"
Yesterday morning, the Israeli army targeted Palestinians waiting for humanitarian aid at the Nabulsi Roundabout on Al-Rashid Street, which connects the Gaza Strip from north to south, south of Gaza City, by bombing and opening fire on them. A previous statement indicated that 115 Palestinians were killed in the attack.
The government in Gaza emphasized that Israel's attack on those waiting for humanitarian aid was "deliberate and planned," stating, "The occupation army knew that these individuals had come to the area to receive humanitarian aid, yet they killed them in cold blood."
