United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres met with President Ahmed Shara in the Syrian capital, Damascus.
According to Syrian state television Al-Ekhbariya, Shara received Guterres and his accompanying delegation at the People's Palace in Damascus.
The visit marks a diplomatically significant first. Guterres became the first UN Secretary-General to visit Syria in 17 years.
