UN warns US against targeting civilian sites
The United Nations (UN) has reminded the US that attacking civilian targets in Iran is prohibited under international law.
As US President Donald Trump continues to threaten attacks on bridges and power plants in Iran, the United Nations (UN) has warned the US against attacking civilian targets in the country.
Stephane Dujarric, spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, stated in a briefing that attacking civilian infrastructure is prohibited under international law.
Dujarric explained that even if certain civilian infrastructure elements are classified as military targets, they could still cause significant civilian harm, which means such attacks are prohibited.
Dujarric noted that whether such attacks constitute war crimes would need to be determined by a court.
