Unidentified drones detected over military base in Belgium
Belgian Defense Minister Theo Francken announced that unidentified drones were detected over the Marche-en-Famenne Military Base in the country on Saturday and yesterday evening.
Unidentified drones have been detected over the Marche-en-Famenne Military Base in southern Belgium. Following reports to the police, security and intelligence units have been mobilized.
In his statement regarding the matter, Belgian Defense Minister Theo Francken said, "Our soldiers detected 4 or 5 drones flying over key areas of our military base on Saturday evening.
Our army's main barracks and critical infrastructure elements are located here. Those operating these drones were not amateurs, but professionals. They were aiming to obtain important information about the base."
Francken also stated that two more unidentified drones were detected over the same military base yesterday evening.
In his statement, Minister Francken expressed that these developments are part of a hybrid war and that there is an attempt to create a climate of panic and intimidation in Europe. Although reports in the Belgian press include allegations regarding Russia's role in the attacks, Minister Francken stated that this cannot be confirmed yet.
Francken had also previously made harsh criticisms of Russia in statements to the press. When asked about the possibility of a Russian missile attack on Brussels, Francken replied, "If Russia hits Brussels, we will wipe Moscow off the map."
