'Unknown disease' spreading in Afghanistan: Detected in 500 people

In Afghanistan's Parwan province, 500 people have contracted an infectious disease of unknown origin, with 2 people losing their lives and 50 cases remaining in critical condition.

Speaking to TOLO News, Parwan Governor's Office Spokesperson Hikmatullah Shamim stated that a large number of people have sought medical attention at hospitals over the last 4 days due to an 'epidemic disease of unknown cause.'

Shamim said that more than 500 people in Parwan's Shinwari district have contracted the disease, the cause of which has not yet been determined, and that the number of cases is increasing.

Reporting that 2 people have died due to the disease, Shamim stated that the condition of 50 patients is severe.

Describing the illness as a 'new type of infectious disease,' Shamim noted that patients generally exhibit symptoms such as fatigue, severe pain in the hands and arms, severe diarrhea, and high fever.
