UNRWA: People could die if fuel is not provided to Gaza by tomorrow
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has warned that if fuel is not provided to the Gaza Strip by tomorrow, people could die.
Speaking to the BBC, UNRWA Spokesperson Tamara Alrifai emphasized that the depleting fuel supply is the "top priority," stating, "If fuel is not provided, we will be forced to stop our operations in Gaza by tomorrow evening, and because of this, people could die."
"MACHINES NEED FUEL"
Pointing out that food and water are running out in the Gaza Strip and that urgent humanitarian aid must be delivered, Alrifai said:
"We need fuel for trucks to be able to deliver this aid. We need fuel for people to have access to clean water and for the water desalination plant to operate. In hospitals, life-saving machines, which would cause people to die if they stop working, need fuel."
Regarding allegations that Hamas would use the fuel sent to Gaza, Alrifai stated that "the UN has provided guarantees to the international community and aid organizations that all aid and fuel reaching Gaza will be under its own supervision."
