Urgent evacuation call for US citizens in Iraq

The US Embassy in Baghdad has issued an urgent evacuation call for US citizens in the country, citing rising security risks in Iraq due to attacks targeting Iran and retaliatory actions by the Tehran administration.

In a statement released by the embassy, it was noted that the US Department of State has ordered all non-emergency government personnel to depart from Iraq.

US citizens in Iraq were advised to leave the country as soon as possible and to remain where they are staying until they can depart. The statement also reiterated a warning for individuals to stay away from windows as part of security measures.

In line with these developments, it was reported that all routine consular services at the US Embassy in Baghdad and the US Consulate General in Erbil have been suspended until further notice.

The statement reminded that anti-US protests are ongoing in various areas, particularly around Tahrir Square and the 14 July Bridge, and that new calls for demonstrations have been made. It was noted that the Green Zone in Baghdad has been largely closed to entry and exit.
