US Ambassador to Ankara Barrack: My visit to Hasakah does not undermine Turkey's national interests
US Ambassador to Ankara and Special Envoy for Syria Thomas Barrack made a statement regarding his visit to the city of Hasakah, Syria, in a post on his social media account.
US Ambassador to Ankara and Special Envoy for Syria Thomas Barrack emphasized that his visit to Hasakah was conducted to facilitate the implementation of the March 10 Agreement between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Syrian government, stating, "Any claims that the visit involved activities undermining Turkey's national interests or territorial integrity are completely baseless."
Barrack's statement is as follows:
"As the US Ambassador to Turkey and Special Envoy for Syria, I visited Hasakah in my capacity as an envoy to facilitate the implementation of the March 10 Agreement between the SDF and the Syrian Government and to monitor progress.
The importance of this agreement is critical not only for the stability and security of Syria but also for the strategic interests of both Turkey and the US.
My work in Hasakah was conducted with full transparency and in a spirit of promoting regional stability, counter-terrorism coordination, and humanitarian access; all of which directly serve Turkey's security and economic interests.
Any claims that the visit involved activities undermining Turkey's national interests or territorial integrity are completely baseless. Any accusation that the presence of a map I had never seen before in a meeting room I had never been to before undermines Turkey's interests is completely absurd.
My mission was and remains focused on advancing cooperation mechanisms that reduce cross-border threats and support the broader goal of regional peace and reconstruction."
