US announces $8.7 billion military aid package for Israel

The US continues its military aid to Israel. In a statement released by the Israeli Ministry of Defense, it was announced that the US has provided an $8.7 billion aid package to support the country's ongoing military efforts, including the development of air defense systems. The statement noted, "The package includes $3.5 billion for essential wartime procurement and $5.2 billion for air defense systems, including the Iron Dome, David's Sling, and an advanced laser system."

The statement, which indicated that the agreement was finalized following a series of high-level meetings between Israeli and US officials in Washington, noted that approximately $3.5 billion for critical acquisitions has already been received, while the additional $5.2 billion is intended to enhance Israel's air defense systems.

The statement added, "This significant investment will significantly strengthen critical systems such as the Iron Dome and David's Sling, and will support the continued development of an advanced high-power laser defense system currently in the development phase."

The aid package was announced on the same day Abbas accused Israel of genocide from the UN podium.

The announcement regarding the military aid package came as Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, in his speech at the UN General Assembly in New York, accused Israel of genocide and Washington of providing Israel with the "lethal weapons it uses to kill thousands of innocent civilians, children, and women."
