US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin made statements regarding Israel's attacks in Lebanon at the G7 Defense Ministers' Meeting.
Austin said, "We would like to see Israel scale back some of the strikes it is conducting, especially in and around Beirut."
Stating that the number of civilian casualties is "far too high," Austin added, "We want to see a transition to some kind of negotiation process that will allow civilians on both sides of the border to return to their homes."
UNIFIL ATTACK
Noting that he discussed the attacks on United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) positions with his Israeli counterpart Yoav Gallant, Austin said, "Gallant gave me assurances that he or his forces have no intention of targeting UNIFIL forces. I continue to emphasize how important it is that these forces are not attacked."
