US: Ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon extended

The US Department of State announced that Israel and Lebanon have reached an agreement to extend the ceasefire between the parties for 45 days.

US Department of State Spokesperson Tommy Pigott made a statement regarding the 3rd round of direct Israel-Lebanon negotiations, which have been ongoing in Washington for 2 days, on his account on the US-based X social media platform.

Spokesperson Pigott stated, "The US hosted highly productive talks between Israel and Lebanon on May 14-15. To allow for further progress, the ceasefire announced on April 16 will be extended for another 45 days."

Pigott noted that the political leg of the negotiations will resume on June 2-3 and that a security meeting will be held at the Pentagon on May 29 with the participation of military delegations from both countries.

The State Department spokesperson emphasized their belief that the talks will contribute to achieving lasting peace between the two countries and the full recognition of mutual sovereignty and territorial integrity.
