US-made bombs used in Rafah attack

It has been determined that US-made bombs were used in the attack carried out by Israel last Sunday on a tent camp housing displaced Palestinians in the city of Rafah in the Gaza Strip, which resulted in the deaths of 45 people.

The US-based New York Times newspaper stated that the remnants of the munitions used after the attack belong to the US-made "GBU-39" and that this bomb was "designed and manufactured" in the US.

The newspaper said that the type of bomb was identified through elements such as the "tail actuation system that controls the fins that guide the GBU-39 to its target" and its "unique bolt pattern."

A COLORADO-BASED FIRM

Reporting that a series of numbers starting with "81873" was found on the remnants of the bomb, the newspaper stated that these numbers are a "unique identifier code" assigned by the US government to a Colorado-based firm that supplies parts for bombs, including the GBU-39.

The Israeli army carried out an attack last Sunday on the Tal Al-Sultan Camp in Rafah, where displaced Palestinians had taken refuge, leaving 45 people dead and 249 injured. Yesterday, Israel struck the Al-Mawasi tent camp in Rafah, killing 21 people and injuring 64, 10 of whom were in critical condition.
