The statement noted that the strikes targeted Iranian military capabilities used to threaten commercial vessels freely navigating the Strait of Hormuz.
The statement emphasized that the Strait of Hormuz is an international waterway of critical importance to global trade, and noted that, in accordance with the instructions of US President Donald Trump, the Tehran administration is being held responsible for the situation in the region.
Reports in the Iranian press stated that sounds of explosions were heard in the city of Ahvaz in the country's southwest, as well as in the city of Chabahar near the Pakistani border and the city of Bandar Abbas on the coast of the Strait of Hormuz.
No statement has yet been made regarding whether there were any casualties or injuries in the strikes.
