US official: The US does not support any plan for the forced displacement of the Gazan population

An unnamed official from the US State Department, in a statement to the Qatar-based Al Jazeera, made assessments regarding Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz's calls for the removal of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip. The official reiterated Washington's commitment to the 20-point peace plan that formed the basis for US President Donald Trump's efforts to secure a ceasefire in the region last year.

When asked about Israeli Minister Katz's statement that the only "solution" to the crisis in Gaza is to depopulate the region, the US official pointed to Article 12 of Trump's plan. The official stated, "As clearly stated in Article 12 of the President's plan, no one will be forced to leave Gaza. Those who wish to leave will be able to do so freely and will have the freedom to return. We will encourage people to stay in Gaza and offer them the opportunity to build a better Gaza."

The US official said, "The US does not support any plan or proposal for the forced displacement, deportation, or mandatory relocation of the Gazan population."

The US State Department official stated that any population movement in Gaza "must be based entirely on a voluntary basis," emphasizing that Washington's priority is the demilitarization and stabilization of Gaza, and its reconstruction for the benefit of the region's residents. The official also said that under Article 20 of Trump's plan, the US would lead the establishment of a dialogue between the parties to reach a consensus on a political future of peaceful and prosperous coexistence between Israelis and Palestinians.

Israeli Defense Minister Katz claimed in a statement last Wednesday that US President Trump had not canceled his previous proposal for the removal of Palestinians from Gaza, but had only "frozen" it. In his statement, Katz asserted, "Ultimately, there is no real solution for Gaza without this migration."
