US officials: Iran struck cargo ship
US officials and various sources have alleged that Iran carried out an attack on a Singapore-flagged cargo ship near the Strait of Hormuz. It was reported that there were no casualties on the ship, which was struck by unknown ammunition.
Speaking to the US press, two senior US officials claimed that elements affiliated with the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) carried out an attack on the Singapore-flagged cargo ship "Ever Lovely," located in a region near the Strait of Hormuz in the Gulf of Oman.
It was suggested that the attack "tested" the agreement signed between the US and Iran last week, which aimed to end hostilities and reopen the critical maritime shipping route.
Security sources stated that the attack may have been carried out with a kamikaze drone. It was reported that the attack occurred following Iran's warning regarding the use of routes near the Strait of Hormuz that are approved only by the Tehran administration.
According to a statement by the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), the ship's bridge was damaged in the attack, but there were no casualties. The statement said, "A merchant vessel was struck by unknown ammunition on the starboard side, causing damage to the bridge. The captain reported no casualties or environmental damage."
The UKMTO noted that the attack took place while the ship was sailing 7.5 nautical miles southeast of the port of Dahit, Oman.
UN temporarily halts evacuation process for ships in Hormuz
The International Maritime Organization (IMO), affiliated with the United Nations, announced that the program for the evacuation of ships stranded in the Gulf, which had been restricted due to the US-Iran War that began on February 28, has been temporarily halted following the suspicious attack.
