US plans to send troops to Mexican border

US plans to send troops to Mexican border

The US will increase the number of troops at its southern border. A senior US official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, announced that the US military is preparing to send 1,500 additional troops to the Mexican border following President Donald Trump's declaration of a state of emergency to combat illegal immigration across the country's southern border, though they did not specify exactly when the troops would be deployed.

After taking office, Trump issued an executive order instructing the US Department of Defense to increase the number of troops at the US southern border to ensure full operational control.

There are currently 2,200 troops and thousands of National Guard members serving at the Mexican border.
