US President Trump announces trade deal signed with China
US President Donald Trump stated that they have signed a trade deal with China and that they could potentially reach a "big" agreement with India as well.
Trump made remarks regarding the economy at an event held at the White House.
Stating that US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and Trade Representative Jamieson Greer are working "overtime" to secure trade deals with other countries, Trump expressed that "everyone wants to make a deal."
Pointing out that the press had asked "Is there anyone really interested?" a few months ago, Trump said, "We signed with China just yesterday. We won't make a deal with everyone. To some, we will just send a letter saying, 'Thank you very much, you will pay a 25, 35, 45 percent tariff.'"
Stating that they have made "great" deals, Trump said, "Maybe a very big deal is on the way with India. We are going to open up India. As for the China deal, we are starting to open up China. Things that were never possible before are happening. Our relationship with every country is in very good shape."
Touching upon investments made and factories to be established thanks to tariffs, Trump announced that chip company Texas Instruments will also spend 60 billion dollars in the US.
"IT WOULD BE BENEFICIAL IF THE FED LOWERED INTEREST RATES"
Continuing his criticism of Federal Reserve (Fed) Chair Jerome Powell, Trump said, "If there were someone at the Fed who would lower interest rates a little, it would be beneficial. We have to fight this guy; he is not doing his job."
Claiming that a 2-point interest rate cut would provide 600 billion dollars in savings, Trump said, "With just a stroke of a pen, with one sentence, you can save 1 trillion dollars. It is embarrassing that we have one of the highest interest rates. We should have the lowest."
