US produces new atomic bomb
The US has produced an atomic bomb 24 times more powerful than the one dropped on Hiroshima
The US Department of Defense (Pentagon) has announced that the US is developing new nuclear weapons. The statement indicated that the US has developed a weapon 24 times more powerful than the atomic bomb it dropped on Hiroshima in 1945.
The Pentagon stated, "We will also present the President with other alternative options." It was announced that the B61-13 atomic bomb, which will be deployed from the B-21 Raider bomber currently under development by the Pentagon, will cause a blast yield of 360 kilotons. While the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945, released approximately 15 kilotons of energy, the bomb dropped on Nagasaki three days later is estimated to have had an effect of 25 kilotons.
CHINA IS ALSO DOUBLING ITS ARSENAL
These statements from the Pentagon came after China announced that it would double its nuclear warheads by 2030. China had announced plans for the number of its nuclear warheads to exceed 1,000 by 2030.
In the statement made by the Pentagon, it was said, "The B61-13 will provide the President with additional options against certain harder and large-area military targets, strengthening deterrence of adversaries and assurance of allies and partners." John Plumb, who made the statement on behalf of the Pentagon, did not share any information regarding the new weapons of China or Russia.
Plumb said, "Today's announcement is reflective of a changing security environment and growing threats from potential adversaries. The United States has a responsibility to continue to assess and field the capabilities we need to credibly deter and, if necessary, respond to strategic attacks and assure our allies. The B61-13 represents a reasonable step to manage the challenges of a highly dynamic security environment. It provides us with additional flexibility."
However, the US development of new weapons and ammunition will not increase the total number of nuclear weapons in the US arsenal, as it was stated that other US nuclear weapons would be rendered unusable.
COULD KILL 1 MILLION PEOPLE
British media reported that the impact of the newly developed atomic bomb would be immense. In a report in the Daily Mail, it was stated that the bomb could kill 1 million people and it was noted that it could also strike underground targets.
On the other hand, it was recorded that the atomic bomb, which could affect an area approximately 5.5 kilometers in diameter, could leave behind very serious radioactive fallout.
