US Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle has resigned following criticism over the shooting of former US President Donald Trump during a campaign rally.
WHITE HOUSE CONFIRMED
The White House has confirmed that US Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle has resigned following the assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump on July 13.
In a statement released by the White House, it was noted that US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden are grateful to Cheatle for her decades of public service, stating, “Throughout her career in the US Secret Service, she has worked selflessly and risked her life to protect our nation.
We are especially grateful to her for leading the Secret Service during our administration, and we are thankful for her service to our family. As a leader, taking full responsibility for an agency tasked with one of the most challenging jobs in public service requires honor, courage, and incredible integrity,” the statement read.
The statement also noted that Biden is awaiting the results of the investigation into the assassination attempt on Trump on July 13, and conveyed that Biden has promised that what happened on July 13 will never be repeated. The statement added that Biden will soon appoint a new director to head the Secret Service.
