US Secretary of State Blinken reveals the deal between Russia and North Korea

According to the Seoul-based Yonhap news agency, Blinken met with South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul during his visit to the capital, Seoul.

Speaking at a joint press conference following the meeting, Blinken stated that they find the recent increase in military cooperation between North Korea and Russia "concerning."

Blinken noted that Russia wants to provide advanced space and satellite technology and expects weapons and equipment support from Pyongyang in return, saying, "We have reasons to believe that Putin might be close to reversing Russia's policy of decades and accepting North Korea's nuclear weapons program."

Noting that this concern is also a major focus for South Korea and Japan, Blinken emphasized the importance of the trilateral security cooperation that Tokyo and Seoul have established with the US.

Blinken said that the Washington-Seoul alliance is the "cornerstone of peace, security, and prosperity" in the Northeast Asia and Indo-Pacific regions.

It is estimated that approximately 12 thousand North Korean soldiers have been deployed to war fronts in Russia to fight alongside Russian forces against Ukraine.

MOSCOW AND PYONGYANG RELATIONS

The Russian Foreign Ministry had announced that the comprehensive strategic partnership agreement signed between Moscow and Pyongyang in June 2024 entered into force in December 2024.

It was stated that this agreement provides for mutual military assistance in the event of an attack on one of the parties and will contribute to the construction of an indivisible security system and a multipolar world order in the Northeast Asia and Asia-Pacific regions.
