US Secretary of State: 'If there is no peace in Ukraine, we will move on'

US Secretary of State Rubio responded to reporters' questions in Paris, France, following a meeting with Ukrainian and European officials regarding the Russia-Ukraine War.

Noting that everyone acknowledges Ukraine's right to defend itself as a country will be part of any agreement between the parties, Rubio said, "But we are not yet working on anything specific at that level."

Stating that there is no military solution to the war, Rubio said, "What we are talking about here is preventing thousands of people from dying over the next year. We are trying to avoid that."

Stating that they will not continue to hold meetings unless progress is made, Rubio said, "If the parties are serious about peace, we want to help. If that is not going to happen, then we will move on. We will move on to other issues that are equally important, if not more important in some respects, for the US."

Stating that he believes cooperation with the UK, France, and Germany could bring the issue closer to a resolution, Rubio said that the sanctions imposed on Russia, many of which were implemented by Europe, cannot be lifted.

Rubio said, "So, no matter what, they have to be involved in this. This is their continent. This event is taking place on the European continent. Therefore, it is very clear that European powers will care about what is happening."

Pointing out that the US has spent 'billions of dollars in 3 years' to support Ukraine, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated the following:
"However, we have reached a point where there are other things we need to focus on. We are prepared to be involved in this process as much as necessary, but not forever, and not without progress. If that is not possible, we will have to move on. I think the President (Donald Trump) believes that we have made a tremendous effort to end this war, that we have spent more than 80 days on it, and that Biden (former President Joe Biden) never did this. We have said that we have dedicated almost the entirety of the President's first 100 days in office to achieving peace here at the highest possible level."
