US Senate confirms Waltz as UN Ambassador

Mike Waltz, nominated by US President Donald Trump, has been selected as the Ambassador to the United Nations. The appointment of Mike Waltz as the UN Ambassador was made official following a vote in the US Senate.

Waltz received approval for the position with 47 votes in favor and 43 against in the Senate. With this result, the UN Ambassador seat, which had remained vacant for 8 months in President Donald Trump's cabinet, has been filled. Due to the withdrawal of the previous candidate and the prolongation of the process, there had been a significant delay in Washington's representation in New York.

Waltz's nomination had previously been sent back to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee due to a procedural hurdle. Following the vote, which was brought back to the agenda on Wednesday, it was finalized by being approved in the Senate General Assembly. It was noted that the support given to Waltz was shaped on a bipartisan basis.

It is not yet clear whether the new ambassador, Waltz, will attend the 80th United Nations General Assembly meeting to be held in New York next week. No statement has been made by the White House on this matter.
