US shoots down two UAVs in the Red Sea!

Tensions between the US and the Houthis continue. The United States Central Command announced that it had destroyed 2 unmanned aerial vehicles belonging to the Houthis.

The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) made a statement regarding the operation on its X social media account.

The statement, which noted that the unmanned aerial vehicle was shot down at 15:41 local time, also reported that an anti-ship ballistic missile launched by the Iranian-backed Houthis in Yemen was neutralized between 17:51 and 18:02.

The statement indicated that in addition to these activities, another unmanned aerial vehicle was neutralized.

The Iranian-backed Houthis in Yemen have been seizing commercial ships they claim are affiliated with Israeli companies off the coast of Yemen since October 31, 2023, in response to Israel's attacks on Gaza, and have been attacking some of them with unmanned aerial vehicles and missiles.

Following the actions of the Houthis, numerous shipping companies decided to suspend their voyages in the Red Sea.

On December 18, 2023, the US announced the creation of a multinational "maritime task force" called "Operation Prosperity Guardian" against Houthi forces with the participation of a group of countries, citing that global maritime trade security was at risk.

Following the attacks by the US and the UK on areas under Houthi control in Yemen, the Houthis announced that they would target all ships belonging to these two countries.
