US statement appears to support Israel's attacks on Hezbollah

A statement has come from the US regarding the escalating tension between Israel and Hezbollah. US State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller said that if Hezbollah were to stop its attacks on Israel, the US would encourage Israel to stop its attacks on Hezbollah.

Miller said, "Nasrallah could stop the terrorist attacks in Israel. I assure you that if he did that, we would tell Israel that they need to maintain calm on their side."

Stating that Hezbollah has not stopped its attacks despite all warnings, Miller said, "As long as Hezbollah continues to launch cross-border attacks, Israel will of course launch military operations to defend itself, as any country would."

Emphasizing that they will continue to pressure all parties, Miller said, "What we continue to pressure all parties on is not to escalate the conflict, not to let it spiral out of control into a war that we do not think serves the interests of either side, and ultimately to try to secure a ceasefire in Gaza that will help restore calm along the Blue Line."

US Department of Defense Spokesperson Sabrina Singh, in a press briefing, stated that any attack that would escalate tensions in the Middle East would not be helpful, adding, "Secretary Lloyd Austin reiterates in almost every conversation that we want regional tensions to decrease. We have never wanted to see a wider regional conflict."
