US strikes a boat in the Caribbean
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that the US military struck a drug-carrying boat that had departed from Venezuela in the Caribbean.
The US continues to take firm steps against drug cartels. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that the US military struck a drug-carrying boat that had departed from Venezuela in the Caribbean.
Rubio stated, "As US President Donald Trump just announced, today the US military conducted a lethal strike in the southern Caribbean against a drug-carrying boat that had departed from Venezuela and was being used by a drug cartel designated as a terrorist organization."
The US recently deployed a naval group consisting of a submarine and 7 warships off the coast of Venezuela to combat drug trafficking.
The US, which alleges that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro leads the cartel known as the "Cartel de los Soles" that traffics drugs to the US, had previously increased the reward for information leading to the arrest or conviction of Maduro from 25 million dollars to 50 million dollars. On July 25, the US Department of the Treasury added the Cartel de los Soles to the 'Specially Designated Global Terrorist' list.
