'Public' requirement for US visa applications

The United States (US) Embassy in Ankara has announced that a requirement has been introduced for all personal social media accounts to have their privacy settings set to "public" for the necessary reviews during visa applications.

'Public' requirement for US visa applications

In an announcement shared on the US Embassy in Ankara's social media account with the note, "Every visa decision is a national security decision," it was reported that a requirement has been introduced for individuals' social media accounts to be "public" for visa applications. The statement made by the Embassy included the following:

"Effective immediately, all applicants for F, M, or J non-immigrant visas will be required to set the privacy settings on all their personal social media accounts to 'public' in order to facilitate the necessary reviews to verify their identities and admissibility to the United States."
