Venice implements new policy, earns 700,000 euros in 8 days
It has been reported that the "entry fee" policy for day-trippers visiting the Italian city of Venice, famous for its canals, has generated more than 700,000 euros in revenue during its first 8 days since being launched on April 25.
According to a report by the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, 144,645 day-trippers who visited the city between April 25 and May 2 paid the 5-euro entry fee. As a result, the city of Venice generated 723,225 euros in revenue.
The report stated that the revenue generated during the first 8 days of the entry fee policy is equivalent to the earnings expected over 7 months, noting that this situation exceeded the municipal administration's expectations.
Furthermore, the newspaper's report commented that the entry fee policy has not stopped the influx of tourists to the city.
VENICE ENTRY FEE POLICY
The "Venice entry fee" policy, which was approved by the Venice City Council in September 2023 to control tourist density in the city, will be tested this year over 29 days, including some holidays when high density is expected.
Tourists whose day trips to Venice coincide with the designated 29 days can pay their entry fees by making a reservation on the website created under the name "Contributo di Accesso a Venezia" (Venice Entry Fee).
