Bizarre claim from Russia: Did European leaders use 'cocaine' on their way to Ukraine?

Footage of the train journey to Ukraine taken by French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has sparked a major debate in European public opinion. In the video clips that spread rapidly on social media, the three leaders were seen acting suspiciously while traveling side-by-side in a train carriage.

In the footage, it was noted that Macron appeared to be trying to quickly hide a napkin on the table, while Merz was seen holding an object resembling a straw. British Prime Minister Starmer is seen in the background, remaining silent but present in the same environment. Based on these images, some users put forward the claim that the leaders were using cocaine.

While the question "did the leaders use cocaine on the train?" quickly trended on social media platforms, the most striking statement on the matter came from Russia.

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova made headlines with her remarks suggesting that the leaders were using drugs. Referring to the footage in question, Zakharova stated:

"The fate of Europe is being determined in every sense by addicts. These images reveal the state that the political structure in Europe has reached."

In her statement, Zakharova also recalled similar accusations she had previously directed at Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy:

"In 2022, I asked an ambassador from a Western country: How can you send weapons to an unstable drug addict who has been using cocaine for years – that is, Zelenskyy? The answer I received was: This is normal for the European Union. Because many Western leaders already use it."
