Death toll from wildfires in the US rises: 28 people have lost their lives
The death toll has risen to 28 in Los Angeles, USA, where hundreds of homes have burned down as a result of wildfires that have been ongoing for weeks.
The death toll from the ongoing Palisades and Eaton wildfires in Los Angeles, California, has risen to 28, with a total of 37,469 acres of land reported to have burned.
In a statement from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, it was noted that the Palisades Fire, which has spread over 23,448 acres and reduced more than 6,500 structures to ash, is 65 percent contained, while the Eaton Fire, which has spread over 14,021 acres and rendered 9,410 structures unusable, is 89 percent extinguished.
As efforts to combat the wildfires that began on January 7 in Los Angeles, California, continue, the toll of the disaster has worsened once again. According to a statement from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office, the death toll has risen to 28, with 11 people losing their lives in the Palisades Fire and 17 in the Eaton Fire.
WILDFIRES CONTINUE
Meanwhile, it was stated that at least 3 new fires have broken out in the region. It was reported that the Lilac Fire, which started near the city of San Diego and spread over 85 acres, is 50 percent extinguished, while the Pala Fire, which started near the city of San Diego and spread over 17 acres, has been completely contained.
It was stated that efforts to combat the Clay Fire, which broke out near the city of Jurupa Valley and is affecting an area of 39 acres, are ongoing.
