It has been reported that 5 people lost their lives and at least 7 people were injured in an explosion that occurred at a shopping mall in the city of Taichung, Taiwan. It was noted that police, ambulance, and fire crews were dispatched to the scene, and the area was closed to traffic due to the explosion.
A violent explosion occurred on the 12th floor of the Shin Kong Mitsukoshi shopping mall in Taichung, Taiwan, which was undergoing renovations. Police, ambulance, and fire crews were dispatched to the area. In a statement from the fire department, it was stated that 5 people lost their lives and 7 people were injured.
Reports in the local press indicated that the explosion may have been caused by a gas leak in a restaurant at the mall. Taiwan's leader Lai Ching-te called for a swift investigation into the cause of the explosion.
While the main road was closed to traffic due to glass shattered by the explosion, an investigation into the incident has been opened.
